Celebrating the International Animation Day (IAD) 2022 - the 21st Anniversary !

On behalf of ASIFA-JAPAN, I am most pleaesd that we celebrate this year's International Animation Day (IAD).

We would like to celebrate this day with all animation professionals around the world, with all lovers of animation art, and with all students who are studying and working hard to become active in the world of animation.

International Animation Day, now in its 21st year, was established by the Association Internationale du Film d'Animation (ASIFA) in 2002, and is celebrated on and around October 28th, the day Emile Reynaud (1844 - 1918) is said to have the first public showing of animation in 1892. The celebration will be held around the world, with animation screenings, exhibitions, lectures, workshops, and other events to promote the development of the art of animation.

In these times of war, in addition to the corona disaster, there is no time for rest and relaxation, but it is precisely at times like these that we are reminded of the spirit of LOVE & PEACE that the founders of ASIFA and their successors have carefully fostered, and we hope to share it with everyone in the world through the IAD.

This year, IAD in Japan will be held in Kyoto and Atsugi. We are also pleased to be able to hold the "Hiroshima International Animation Festival VR Photo Exhibition" as a related event. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kyoto University of Arts and Kanagawa Institute of Technology for their support.

Happy IAD 2022!

Hiroshi Onishi
Acting President of ASIFA-JAPAN
