PROFILE

Okui was born and raised in Shinjuku in Tokyo, Japan. In 1994 He graduated from the Department of Scenography, Display and Fashion Design in Musashino Art University. In the same year, with his first hand drawing animation “CAVE”, he won the Second Prize in Category E (Shorter than 5 minutes) at the 5th International Animation Festival HIROSHIMA 1994. Later he has been working on animations and illustrations featuring 3DCGs.
After his 4-year career at a video picture production company, in 1998 he set up his own screen image production team, “digdog.”
He was nominated at SIGGRAPH’99`Computer Animation Festival, and won Special Prize at JACA’99 Japan Visual Art Exhibition, Excellence Award in the Art Works Category at Digital Content Grand Prix 2002, and many other prizes. And his works were selected as the recommended works by the judging committee at the 6th and the 8th Japan Media Arts Festival.
Inviting Mr. Ohji Hiroi as a producer, Okui is now working on “Fushigi Circus”, which is his original work for the first time in 10 years.
Okui is a member of ASIFA-JAPAN, and served as one of the International selection Committee members of the 11th International Animation Festival HIROSHIMA.
