Dear Friends,

With your kind cooperation, we ASIFA-JAPAN had its 30th birthday on December 22nd, 2011, and we were pleased to celebrate the 30th anniversary last August at the 14th Hiroshima International Animation Festival - HIROSHIMA 2012, by holding several commemorating special programs and exhibitions.

Association Internationale du Film d'Animation - ASIFA, as written in the preamble of its Statutes, was founded as a non-profit association in the firm belief that the art of animation can be enriched and greatly developed through close international cooperation and the free exchange of ideas, experiences and information between all who are concerned with animation. Also, it is our belief that the art of animation should help promote the progress toward peace and mutual understanding between all people.
ASIFA=JAPAN is one of the most active national groups of ASIFA, established in accordance with its Statutes, and all our members have long been making efforts voluntarily for the development of animation field.

One of our main activities, Hiroshima International Animation Festival, will also be celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2014 August. I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere gratitude to the citizens of Hiroshima as well as to all those people who have been supporting our festival for many years.
As we continue Hiroshima Festival for nearly three decades, it is my pleasure to see that so many younger people of Japan and abroad have grown up together with our festival to become talented animation filmmakers, scholars, etc., and that they are now working in the front line of animation industry internationally. I also feel encouraged when many animation filmmakers, production people as well as professors and students from all over the world kindly say that they are working hard to make their new films aiming the competition of Hiroshima Festival.

This year, as a new project, we are planning to make our new DVD "ASIFA-JAPAN Vol.3", and we will be showing our members' works through the International Animation Day.

Thank you very much for your continued cooperation to our activities.

Sayoko Kinoshita
President
